When you think of Christmas, there are so many things that come to mind. But one of my favorite things about Christmas is baking!! And more specifically, baking cookies!
Growing up my family would always make cookies during the season to decorate and a bunch of Christmasy treats!! We’d always leave cookies and milk out for Santa and wake up eager the next morning to see what he ate!! Such fun memories like this is what makes the season so special!
These cookies are day 4 of my 12 days of Christmas cookie series!! If you’ve been following along, thank you so much! I love having you here!! If you have no clue what I’m referring to, I’ve been doing a video series on my socials where I create fun, delicious christmas cookies recipes to share with you during the weeks and days leading up to Christmas.
It’s called 12 days of Christmas cookies and this cookie is cookie number four so be sure to go follow along so you don’t miss out! So far I’ve done Chocolate Peppermint Cookies, Triple Chip Cookies, Chewy Spice Cookies and now these brown butter christmas m&m chocolate chip cookies.
What you’ll need:

- sugar
- brown sugar
- eggs

What is brown butter and do I have to use it?
Basically brown butter is just butter that’s been cooked on the stove. It foams up and the milk solids caramelize giving it its delicious deep nutty flavor. It takes a few quick minutes on the stove and the smell is like no other. Let’s just say it’s amazing and it’s a GAME CHANGER when baking. It’s hard to go back. It’s super simple to make so the extra step is optional but 100% worth it. And yes, you can still make this recipe without using brown butter it just won’t have the nutty flavor but will still be delicious. If you also want the texture to be the same, i would use melted butter because the consistency of brown butter and melted will be the most similar.
I am SO excited for you guys to try out these cookies. If you’ve been looking for a staple chocolate chip cookie recipe, I really hope these become it and that you love them as much as I do. With pools of dark choclate and the festive m&ms sometimes I wonder if it gets much better than this?

Is it supposed to be 1 tablespoon of baking soda? Mine came out so dry 🙁
Cassidy Morris says
Awh I’m so sorry. You can cut down the baking soda amount. If your cookies are too dry you can also add 1/4 cup less flour and underbake for a more gooey cookie.
