Old fashioned Iced Oatmeal Cookies

It’s Day 5 of my 12 Days of Christmas Cookies series!! The past couple of years I have done a video series on my instagram and TikTok account where I create 12 different Christmas Cookie recipes called my 12 days of Christmas Cookie Series!!

It definitely keeps me busy each year but so amazing to see you guys love the recipes and also getting to make them for my family to eat and enjoy is a blast!!

Down below I will share a list of my most favorite cookie recipes from my series so you are all ready to go for the holiday season:

  • Peanut Butter Chocolate Marbled Cookies
  • White Chocolate Coconut Macadamia Nut Cookies
  • Christmas M&M Chocolate Chip Cookies
  • Hot Cocoa Cookies
  • Cutout Gingerbread Cookies
  • Cookie Butter Swirl Cookies
Oatmeal Cookies with Glaze

These cookie recipes would be GREAT to share for a festive holiday party, family get togethers, a Christmas movie night in with your friends and family, office Holiday party, cookie swap, cookie boxes or with your loved one. The possibilities are endless!!

These homemade Iced Oatmeal Cookies are even better than the old fashioned packaged ones I grew up on that my grandpa used to LOVE. They are softer and so yum. I love how the glaze hardens and you can even add sprinkles if you’d like to make them festive.

These are SO quick and easy to make and absolutely delicious. The dough can be whipped up in one bowl and the glaze on top is only a couple of ingredients. They are soft, chewy and such a classic cookie.

I love creating a list of all the ingredients you will need to make my recipe on the post before the recipe. That way you can clearly see everything you’ll need and what you may need to go grab at the store to make them.

What You’ll Need:

  • butter (unsalted)
  • brown sugar
  • white sugar
  • eggs
  • vanilla extract or bean paste
  • cornstarch
  • baking soda
  • baking powder
  • salt
  • flour (all purpose)
  • oats
  • powdered sugar
  • milk
  • parchment paper

All the ingredients are very simple and easy to find at your local grocery store OR already in your kitchen ready to go. They are simple ingredients but together make such a delicious fun recipe and I’m so excited for you to try them out.

Let’s Get Started!!

Iced Oatmeal Cookies

Old Fashioned Iced Oatmeal Cookies are a classic cookie we all grew up on. They are soft chewy and icing that glazes over on top makes them. They are perfect for the holidays or anytime of year and even better than the packaged Iced Oatmeal Cookies.

Servings 3 dozen

Ingredients

For Cookies:

  • 1 cup butter 2 sticks, unsalted, melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or bean paste
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour all purpose
  • 1 1/2 cups oats old fashioned (or quick)

For Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk

Instructions

  • Pre-heat your oven to 350℉ and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl add your butter and melt. Add your sugar and brown sugar. Stir until well combined.
  • Add your eggs and vanilla and stir until light and fluffy.
  • Next, add in your dry ingredients which includes your cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder, salt, flour, and oats. Stir until just combined.
  • Using a large cookie scoop, scoop your cookie dough into 1-2 inch balls and place on your baking sheets lined with parchment paper a few inches apart to prevent from spreading into each other.
  • Bake in the oven at 350℉ for 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven and using a round cookie cutter or glass, scoot the edges of your cookies in to make them all round and to help out with spreading.
  • In a large measuring cup, add 2 cups of powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of milk and whisk until well combined.
  • Once your cookies have cooled completely, dip tops of them in your icing and then let them set on a cooling rack.
  • Top with festive sprinkles if you'd like, serve, share and enjoy!!
