Guys!! IT’S HERE!!! My first official gluten free recipe. Over the past few years I’ve had people here and there reach out, asking if I have any gluten free recipes. I finally did it!! It was so sad to tell them no and not be able to accommodate their dietary needs so this is super exciting!!
I want people all around to be able to make my recipes. I have some friends that can’t have gluten or don’t eat gluten as a part of their diet and I’m so excited to have a recipe that they can make and enjoy!! This recipe tastes so similar to the classic chocolate chip cookies but made with gluten free flour and almond flour. The texture and flavor is JUST as good which was super important to me as I made a gluten free recipe.
Chocolate Chip cookies are one of my favorite desserts ever. They are nostalgic, super easy to make, chocolatey, SO delicious and such a classic. I love that they only take a short time to make. These cookies, are soft, chewy and filled with puddles of dark chocolate. The pinch of flaky sea salt balances the sweetness perfectly.
I love any recipe that uses brown butter, as well. It adds so much flavor. Such a nice deep nutty caramel flavor. The effort is 100% worth it.
I’m super excited to make some more gluten free recipes in the future that people all around can enjoy!! I want to make a brownie one next. If you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know!!
All the ingredients in this recipe are pretty easy to find. Simple ingredients but put together, make for the best flavors. Gluten Free flour can be found in the baking isle at your local grocery store and vanilla bean paste can be found online or at a speciality food store. Most of these ingredients are probably already in your kitchen at home!!

What is Brown Butter & How Do You Make It?
Basically brown butter is just butter that’s been cooked on the stove. It foams up and the milk solids caramelize giving it it’s delicious deep nutty flavor. It takes a few quick minutes on the stove and the smell is like no other. Let’s just say it’s amazing and it’s a GAME CHANGER when baking. It’s hard to go back once you make it a few times and super simple to make so the extra step is optional but 100% worth it.
You can still make this recipe without using brown butter it just won’t have the nutty flavor but will still be delicious. If you also want the texture to be the same, I would use melted butter because the consistency of brown butter and melted will be the most similar.
I have a quick video on how to make brown butter- HERE!! It takes just a few minutes to make but this video is a visual way to see if that helps you out!!
Let’s Get Started!!
Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter 2 sticks, unsalted, browned
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 egg + 1 egg yolk –
- 1 tsp vanilla bean paste or extract
- 2 cups gluten free flour I used King Arthur Flour
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup dark chocolate chopped
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F and line your baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a sauce pan over medium high heat, add your butter and let melt. Once it's melted, keep it on the heat and let it cook for 5-10 minutes until it foams up and then turns a amber brown color. Transfer into a glass measuring cup and let cool.
- In a large bowl add your browned butter, brown sugar, and sugar. Whisk it up until it’s well combined.
- Add your egg, egg yolk and vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract) and stir again.
- Your mixture should be light and fluffy in texture.
- Next, add your dry ingredients. This includes your gluten free flour, almond flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt. Stir until just combined.
- Add your chopped dark chocolate chunks and chips (reserving some for tops). I I used dark chocolate but you can use whatever you'd like. Stir them in until just combined.
- Scoop your cookie dough into 1-2 inch balls and place on your baking sheets lined with parchment paper a few inches apart (to prevent some spreading into each other). Top with extra chocolate.
- Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes, until edges are golden brown. If you want soft and gooey cookies be sure to take them out before fully set, they will continue to cook slightly on the pan.
- Remove from oven. tap your pan down if they didn’t spread enough. Using a round cookie cutter or glass, scoot around your cookies to make them all round and the same size. This also helps if they spread too much.
- Add a pinch of flaky sea salt and let cool.
- Share and enjoy!!
