Caramel apples are one of the best treats to make in the fall. The crisp tart bite you get with the apples go perfectly with the sweet gooey caramel. Can you imagine a more wonderful combination?
There is something so special about caramel apples to me. Every year, growing up my family would take a small trip to a famous pumpkin show a little over an hour from my house. They would have pumpkin flavored EVERYTHING and basically any other fair food you could imagine. Of course, I would get a caramel apple there because it just seemed like the perfect fall treat. Sweet memories like that are what make certain treats extra special.
Let’s talk TOPPINGS!! As for toppings, they are endless. My fav caramel apple toppings are chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips and mini m&ms! But that’s just the surface level. Caramel Apple Board
Ingredients
For Caramel:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup butter (half a stick)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
For Board:
- 3 granny smith apples (sliced)
- 3 pink lady apples (sliced)
- 1/4 cup sprinkles
- 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup little pumpkin cookies (optional)
Instructions
For Caramel:
- In a large sauce pan, add your sugars and water over medium high heat and let cook until sugar dissolves and it starts to bubble.
- Add your butter and stir it in. Let mixture continue to bubble. Try to not let your mixture hit up on the side of the pan cause this could cause crystallization.
- Continue to stir your mixture, being careful not to walk away as this could burn, until it thickens in texture and starts to pull from the pan.
- Remove from heat and add your salt, heavy cream and vanilla.
For Board:
- Transfer the caramel into a heat resistant container for your board. Be careful because it will be very hot. Make sure to let it cool slightly but not too much as your caramel can harden.
- To assemble your board, cut up your apples into slices, arrange your toppings in little bowls and add all your favorite goodies in a pretty design.
- Share, Dip and Enjoy.
