The cake batter is made up of a handful ingredients. To get the right texture for these fluffy cake donuts, be sure to follow the instructions well. You don’t want a rubbery texture to you donuts but soft and fluffy!!

To finish off your donuts, you brush them in melted butter once they are removed from the oven and coat them in cinnamon sugar on both sides. This adds the perfect texture when you bite into this warm and cozy fall treat but it also makes them super pretty and gives them a finished look.

I use a non stick donut pan for this recipe but you can use whatever you have on hand. If you would like to purchase a donut pan for this recipe here are the donut pans I use: click here. They are super nice and affordable and very easy to store, as well.

Fall baking is one of my favorite things ever. Just the fact that we have the ability to make our homes smell like Cinnabon is just the best thing ever. Every season has something special about it. For Autumn, the comforting cozy feelings it gives is one quality I appreciate most.

Assembling: 15 minutes mins
Servings: 24 donuts
Course: Breakfast, Dessert, Side Dish
Cuisine: American
Ingredients Method

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp maple extract
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 3/4 cup sour cream or greek yogurt
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) melted butter for coating
  • cinnamon sugar for coating

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350° F and grease your donuts pans.
  2. In a large bowl add your sugar, maple syrup, maple and vanilla extracts, oil, and sour cream. Whisk until well combined.
  3. Add your eggs in one at a time, mixing in between until incorporated.
  4. In a separate bowl, add your flour, cornstarch, baking soda, baking powder and salt and whisk until well combined.
  5. Add 1/3 of your dry ingredients mixture into your wet ingredients and whisk until just incorporated. Add half your milk and mix again.
  6. Again, add another 1/3 of your dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to over mix. Add the second half of your milk and mix until just combined. Then add your last 1/3 of dry ingredients and whisk until combined.
  7. Pour your batter into your greased donut pans and and bake at 350℉ for 10-12 minutes. I filled mine up a about 3/4 the way full.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool then using a butter knife gently help release your donuts from the pan. Continue with the rest of your batter.
  9. Once all your donuts are baked and cooled slightly, brush with melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar to coat your donuts.
  10. Share and Enjoy!!
